Example Puzzles

It is easiest to see what Cryptic Mission does by trying to solve some of the clues of an actual puzzle adventure. Here we have two full puzzle adventures that you can solve on the website:

Additionally, the following examples show how Cryptic Mission can create for your events customized to your group's interests, skills, and talents.

Below we list two representative groups, and give a sample of the kind of puzzle that would be created for each group. Words in emphasized text can be found in the Glossary. Each clue also includes hints and a solution.

The Geek Squad

This group is composed of twelve self-described 'geeks.' Their interests include science fiction, comic books, computers, and Star Trek.

This group works together as a programming team in a high pressure firm in the hi-tech sector. As a reward for a successful product completion, their project manager hired Cryptic Mission to plan their release party.

The hybrid Puzzle Safari/Web-Hunt puzzle adventure split the group into three teams of four (fostering a little interdepartmental rivalry). Each team was lead on a frantic chase around their corporate campus and across the Internet looking for clues.

This clue is a Web-Quest that is almost an entire puzzle adventure in and of itself. It involves the following skills (though most of the information can be found on the web if you know where to look):

  • Basic Electrical Engineering
  • Web Technology
  • Star Trek Knowledge

Cryptic Pub Crawl

A couple wants to invite their friends to a pub crawl like no other pub crawl. Though their friends came from all walks of life, the couple knows they would all love any game that allowed them to simultaneously feel very smart and get stupid drunk.

The resulting event combines elements of a cooperative Quest and bar golf. At each bar, team members order a specific drink. With their drink, the bartender gives them a clue. The solution to the clue indicates the next bar and the next drink. Because teams were likely to become less and less mentally competent as the night went on, successive puzzles are designed to be simpler to solve.
